Value-wise, the MSRP seems is a tiny bit higher than I would value it at, but the sale price as of the time of this review makes it an absolute steal. This no-nonsense notebook jumps straight into the action, going from cover to endpaper, to all of the dot-rule signatures. The endpaper and first page do feature that annoying overzealous glue-up that makes it feel less usable than the rest of the notebook, but I usually take that as an opportunity to test different writing instruments. Construction in general feels... fine. The paper, a slight cream color with dark dot-grid, performed pretty well in my testing. Both my 4H pencil and extra-fine fountain pens wrote smoothly. No feathering. Minimal showthrough. And only the permanent marker showed any signs of bleedthrough. The elastic closure was the one feature I really had a problem with. It seems thinner than most, and that made it a bit more difficult to get ahold of.

This journal by Mr Pen is very nice. It’s sturdy and well-constructed, with a strong binding that keeps the pages firmly in place. In addition, it has an elastic strap to help keep it closed when not in use and there’s also an attached narrow satin ribbon for a bookmark. This journal has dotted rather than lined pages that are no-bleed. Doodlers in particular would like this feature but it definitely works very well for journaling, notetaking, etc. It measures 4.5 x 8.25”so it’s big enough to write comfortably but still a convenient size to slip into a bag. The journal’s cover is a pale pink blush fabric and very pretty. This journal is high quality and offered at a very low price. That’s just what I’ve come to expect when I purchase a product from Mr Pen. I’m happy with my purchase.

I have worked with numerous journals over the last couple of years and I have developed a fair idea of what works well for me and what to avoid. I chose this volume for personal journaling and for the price it is a better volume than I could reasonably expect. This is a fairly straightforward volume. It has a cloth cover versus a leather-like or vinyl cover which is a nice change, and I think it will hold up pretty well to some mishandling. It has a ribbon marker, and it has an elastic closure. That's really all that's necessary. The paper is the main feature, and it is of better quality than a typical notebook. I write a lot with fountain pens, and the paper in this journal is thick enough to handle fountain pen inks in most situations. I can get a bleed-through if I stop and rest the nib in a spot for a moment, and I do have ink and pen combinations that lay down heavy saturation in which case I get a small amount of bleeding. In most cases, though, the paper does stand up admirably. This is a dot ruled journal instead of a lined or blank volume, and that has some advantages. It's a bit better for free drawing than lined paper, and it has just enough structure for writing in straight lines without the visual of line ruled paper.Pricewise, this volume is at a very competitive price point. I have volumes that cost quite a bit more and do not provide as many features as this one does (basically just a cover and paper). This is a great journal volume, well-made and with a decent feature set. It's very easy to recommend, especially for the asking price.

Looking for a new journal, look no further. It's a dotted lined journal that has a ribbon book mark and an elastic band to hold it closed. It's perfect for someone who likes to draw or write. The color is a beautiful light pink and for the price you can't beat it!

Recently acquired an RV and was looking for something I could keep detailed maintenance and trip notes in. This will be perfect for my needs. It's compact enough to take up a small amount of space yet big enough to make it easy to write in. Having the elastic around it will make it less likely to have the pages buckle and warp while it's in the glove box. I also like having the marker ribbon which will allow me to mark the last page entry. I will probably put some tabs on some of the pages in order to delineate different sections for maintenance, trip information, and miscellaneous notes, etc.Be aware that while the description says 'pink' it is actually more like a very pale tan to my eye. This is fine with me, as I was only picking pink because it was a color available. If, on the other hand, pink is a deciding factor for you you may want to steer clear of this one. Also the pages have a very faint dot grid pattern on them which will assist in writing in a straight line, but is faint enough that any sketches etc will not be overwhelmed by the lines --actually a nice feature. The paper seems to be pretty thick and so ink bleed through should be at a minimum. If the elastic holds up to the heat of being inside the car this will be a great item for maintaining records for my RV.
